From a Sunday service on August 14, 2005. In contemporary Christianity, faith has been reduced to a mere mental assent to certain creeds and doctrines, which are believed to eradicate the need for an ongoing dependence on God's Spirit. However, the examples of faith in the Bible are marked by an unfolding walk of obedience. The people of God trusted in God's promises in spite of failures and seemingly insurmountable circumstances. Despite not receiving the ultimate promise of the Holy Spirit, these BIblical heroes paved the way for us to continue on the path they have charted for us with steadfast determination and unwavering faith.
