Jesus called the Pharisees’ inability to discern the signs of the times hypocrisy (Matt. 16:3). The Pharisees professed to be the spiritual leaders of their day—they sat in the seat of Moses—yet they failed to possess proper awareness and conviction of the times they lived in. As the saying goes, “Love Is Blind.” So if we find ourselves unable to discern what is happening in our world, it is because we are still in love with it. Strong bias always provides a predisposition to self-deception. But a love for the truth, no matter how painful it may appear, results in our only hope.
