In all four gospels, we’re told the story of two miracles following in succession: first, feeding 5,000 people with five loaves and two pieces of fish, immediately followed by Jesus sending his disciples on a boat ride that turned disastrous. Why did Jesus send them on this trip? Was it His will to rescue them from their predicament, or did He want to see if the miracle they had just witnessed would spawn the faith to face the next seeming impossibility?
