The apostle John says the greatest witness of evangelism is brotherly love within the church. This type of love is not possible without a true repentance experience and a recognition of what we deserve (nothing) and what God deserves (everything). If we forget who we truly are, we no longer live in view of God’s mercy—forgetting the debt of love we owe our brothers in Christ. God’s purifying word shows us the grime of our self-righteousness and changes our perception of other people, which would naturally block the love of God from flowing between us.
