In the parable of the sower, some seed fell among thorns, which Jesus likened to the cares of this world and desires of our flesh. The seeds of God's promises are overcome by the native, resilient "seeds" of worldly success and pride. Don’t hold back from totally surrendering all desire to God's Spirit and power, for He is worthy.
